Aaahhh OOOOOgaaaa: The GT Tailgate Bus
In 2004, a small group of creative Georgia Tech alums "ended up with" a 1984 school bus. While sitting around a campfire one night, discussing the finer things in life, they decided to turn it into the ultimate Georgia Tech football tailgating machine, and the GT Tailgate Bus was born.
The exterior was painted to match the Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech, a 1930 Ford Model A Sports Coupe, which has lead the football team onto the field at Bobby Dodd Stadium since 1961. Some liberty was taken on the hood of the Bus, which sports white flames!
The interior of the Bus is finished with hardwood flooring, a solid hardwood cherry bar, rear side-facing couches, and forward club seating. The Bus is wired for sound, and a 27" flat screen TV can be mounted either inside or outside, providing tailgaters with pre-game satellite TV.
Just below the driver's window is a 4-tone railroad locomotive whistle. An engine-driven compressor provides approximately 18 gallons of whistle air in specially designed tanks mounted under the floor of the Bus. Of course, smashing on the center of the steering wheel rewards the crowd with the famous and distinctive "aaahhh OOOOOOOOgaaaaa" sound of a vintage automobile horn....just like the Ramblin' Wreck. Autographed photos, footballs, and other Georgia Tech sports memorabilia adorn the walls of the inside of the Bus, giving it a "rolling GT-themed sports bar" feel.
The GT Tailgate Bus has made the trip to a few away games around the Southeastern Tailgate Scene, and hasn't missed a single Georgia Tech home game since its "maiden voyage" in the fall of 2004. During the off season, The Bus plays the leading roll in Christmas parties, weddings, Halloween trick-or-treating, kids outings, and anything else the GT Tailgate Bus Guys can think of. The upkeep and operation of, and continued improvements to the Bus are funded 100% by friends, family, and fellow Georgia Tech tailgaters.
