The Muni Lot Browns Backers' DUMDOG

For over fifteen years, The Muni Lot Browns Backers have been celebrating their great American Tailgate before every Cleveland Browns’ home game. Boasting over 700 members, the organization was the first sanctioned Browns backers organization based on the Cleveland tailgate experience. At the hub of this giant party is the iconic leader of the pack, known as “DUMDOG,” which is an old converted yellow school bus from Connecticut turned into an oversized Dumb & Dumber tailgating machine.
DUMDOG, which is actually the second bus turned out by the group, was originally created between April and October of 2006. It took nearly 6 months of sacrifice to get this beast into tailgating shape. When the idea of adding the helmet on the dog was invented, only one question came to mind: “Can we really do this?” But after several beers, a plan was concocted, and work began on its unique element.
The Muni Lot Browns Backers arrive to tailgate as early as 4AM to make sure they squeeze out every minute of tailgate goodness. They actually used to arrive the night before to party all night long, but the Muni Lot has recently clamped down on overnight partying. The bus usually rides down to the lot with only 14 people, but there are hundreds that meet to tailgate with DUMDOG. In fact, the group usually has 4 kegs on tap that are emptied before the day’s end.
Joining the bus for the tailgate is a trailer sharing the same theme as the bus that converts into a self-contained grill island. The trailer parks next to the bus and the side door of the bus opens onto a deck that ties it to the trailer. This trailer was created and built by a different group friends during the same time of construction of the bus.
New features that have been added includes the bus being able to “lift its leg,” and pee on a Steelers hydrant, operated by remote control. Also, with the bus being male, the balls are rigged so that they may be dropped on an unsuspecting victim as they enter the bus. We’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions on what the group calls this feature.
The bus recently won the Browns Auto Show Contest this year making them officially the top Browns tailgate vehicle. Even Joe Cahn, the commissioner of tailgating, and other national tailgaters has stated that the DUMDOG is best tailgate vehicle that they have ever seen in any sport.
